WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO, HOW TO JOIN

The SAA was established in 1935, under the umbrella of the Maritime Art Association, with the aim to promote and support the visual arts and artists in the Tantramar area,  by providing educational & exposure opportunities through workshops, a weekly painting group & an annual exhibit at the Owens Art Gallery at Mount Allison University.

We award 2 annual SAA monetary awards to a graduating student of Tantramar Regional High School and Amherst Regional High School.  The association also donates funds each year to Tantramar Regional High School, Amherst Regional High School, Port Elgin Regional School, Dorchester Consolidated School, Salem Elementary School and Marshview Middle School,  to purchase supplies for their art programs as well as an annual donation to the Owens Art Gallery.

Membership is open to artists of all ages, at any level of training or experience, and offers an opportunity for beginning artists to learn and grow in an encouraging atmosphere of friendship and mentoring, while at the same time providing more experienced artists with the social benefits of regular association with others who share the artistic vision.
